ARTS & CULTURE

There’s a lot going on in Chipping Norton! Why not come and join in – as a visitor or a business in the arts or media that wants a great location. The Theatre stages a mix of live drama, music and film.  Its home is an atmospheric listed building which is also a base for community events.  It is fast becoming not just a local resource but a regional centre of excellence for the arts which reaches out to a much wider community.

Chipping Norton Secondary School has achieved specialist status in performing arts, which not only provides great opportunities for its own pupils and those in village schools, but gives it an important role in linking with the wider community.

The town is host to a number of music festivals and events throughout the year, including the Music Festival - http://www.cnmf.org.uk  it celebrated its centenary in 2004, the festival has classes in music and drama for all ages that are judged by professionals, climaxing in a highlight concert.

Folk day and Jazz weekend are both in Autumn, when the pubs around the square resonate to the jingle of Morris bells and the sounds of saxophones.  On top of all this, there are several local performing arts groups, both amateur and professional, and a range of cultural and arts events including exhibitions and concerts. Some media and arts organizations have made it their business to set up and stay in the town including arts entrepreneurs, galleries and craft shops. There is a  multimedia production studio www.vptv.com and a new online TV station www.countrychannel.co.uk based in the town.

The Town’s heritage includes the New Street recording studios which welcomed a host of rock and roll stars from the 70’s till their closure in 2000, including  Steve Winwood, Radiohead, Status Quo, Duran Duran, and Dexy's Midnight Runners.
