Local Councils


Chipping Norton is served by three local councils - Town, District and County, and their roles are outlined briefly below. You can download the Mayor's report from the last Town Council Annual Meeting.


Town Council

Chipping Norton Town Council

This is the most local council and covers the town. Its main areas of responsibility are recreation and amenities, burials and acting as an official consultee for planning applications. The Town Council also owns and manages the Town Hall. There are 16 councillors.

Wesrt Oxfordshire District Council
West Oxfordshire District Council

West Oxfordshire District Council covers a wider area and is one of five district councils (including Oxford City Council) which fall within Oxfordshire.  WODC's main responsibilities include benefits, business support, local taxation, licensing, environmental health, waste collection, housing services, leisure and tourism, planning and rural services.

There are 49 councillors, 3 of whom represent Chipping Norton.

The main District Council Office is open from 8.30am – 5.30pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30am – 5.00pm Fridays and is at:

Oxfordshire County Council
Oxfordshire County Council covers the whole of Oxfordshire with its main responsibilities being community and living, education and learning, environment and planning, fire and public safety, health and social care, leisure and culture, roads and transport.
