The Chipping Norton Gateway Club is a social club for learning disabled adults, affiliated to Mencap, and a charity in its own right (no.1110705). We have about 45 members and meet on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month (omitting January and August) at the Rugby Club at Greystones, from 7-9 pm. Members attend from their homes in Chipping Norton and Charlbury, from surrounding villages, and from as far afield as Witney, Moreton-in-Marsh, Chipping Campden and even at times from Stratford-upon-Avon. We have a wonderful and devoted band of helpers who transport members in a mini-bus, and in private cars (and some come in taxis) to meetings. In 2005 we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the birth of our club, and we still go from strength to strength.
Activities at meetings may be in various forms of entertainment especially involving music and dancing, educational talks, magic, parties like barbecues in the warmer weather or just quieter evenings when we can share the more simple pleasures of talking with our friends, jigsaws, games, pictures, sewing, drawing and crafts, and we hold a raffle at each meeting to raise money for other charities (chosen by members).
If there is anyone out there who is interested in joining us or lending a hand, we should welcome contact with you. Please ring Sara McCrea 01608 683334 or Jane Nolan 01608 643855 at any time.
