Jill's Birthday Ride

On Sunday July 6th friends from far and near gathered to help Jill celebrate.  The day started grey and wet, but after people had walked round the Rollright Stones in both directions the magic worked, the skies cleared and the sun shone brightly (well, almost).  A scenic loop took us through villages close to Shipston and down to Moreton for a feast of sandwiches and chips at the Black Bear.  The weather stayed fine for the ride back to Chippy for tea and cakes in the garden, which disappeared remarkably quickly.

March 2008
The ride on the 16th March 2008, started from Kingham Green and was led by Adrian. Despite dire forecasts (of weather, not leadership) we were hardly rained on at all. The surface water, however, was deep. In places broad enough to need pedalling through and deep enough to reach our ankles, keeping feet dry and warm was impossible. Some had high-tech footwear. Adrian tried plastic bags inside his shoes. Roger grinned and bore it, as is his wont. Nothing, however, worked. We stopped at Lower Slaughter Mill cafe for lunch as planned. Their power cut was not. We were urged to order hot drinks fast, while there was stll warm water in the boiler. The hot chocolates (all but one of us having two!) were welcome. As was Martin's torch, which we shared for independent visits to the loos, which are windowless. All in all a ride we enjoyed enormously, shrugging off adversity and finding our feet again later in the day, after they'd thawed.

February 2008

As you can see, for February's ride we arranged the clearest, bluest sky this year.  This seemd to promote a feeling of general relaxation in the group, who refused to be hurried and stopped at any opportunity to enjoy

the breathtaking 3 counties views form the Cross Hands ridge road

the Rollright Stones and King Stone

Wyatts Garden Centre - coffe and bacon butties

Ma Larkins - lunch

If this sounds like your way of passing Sunday morning join us on the 3rd sunday of each month.

Happy New Year!

The first Easyriders of 2008 promised variable weather.  Roger, being a sailor, decided we should head into the wind first, which took us to Churchill and then the picturesque lanes through Sarsden.  We paused to look enviously at the manor; Adrian reminded us we could have purchased the house and grounds for just £25M a few years back if we'd been sharp enough.  After easing through the woods past Bruen Abbey we turned on to the unmetalled track to Foxholes, past the BBONT reserve - as near to off road as we get.  At Bledington we were offered a choice of a short cut back to Chippy and the cafe or a loop through the Oddingtons.  To our amazement it was still dry and warm so everyone opted for the Oddington route.  The flooded roads near Adlestrop didn't affect us, and for once we passed up the chance of a coffee stop at Daylesford organics.  Turning up the hill from Kingham to Churchill the wind was indeed behind us and before we knew it we were back at the Mill in Chippy for lunch.  A pleasant 20 miles seemed just the right amount to stimulate the appetite.

DW_easyriders_may.JPGMay saw the first of our summer rides to explore some of the countryside a little further from Chippy.  John and Yvonne led us south from Burford through lovely - flat - countryside, skirting the Cotswold Water Park for lunch by the river at Lechlade.
