The RNID advise that it is a good idea to see your GP first if you have difficulty hearing, even if you are thinking of buying a hearing aid privately. You may have a wax build-up or an infection that has temporarily affected your hearing and can be treated by your GP, or you may need further medical investigation and treatment.

Your GP can refer you to an audiology clinic or the ear, nose and throat (ENT) department of your local hospital to have hearing tests and to see if a hearing aid will help.

Both the opticians in Chippy have visiting audiologists who carry out hearing tests.
